Tensions appear to be easing in the palace amid Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s return to the U.K.
In a clip from the upcoming ABC News Studios documentary titled Harry & Meghan: The Return of the Prince, detailing the Sussexes’ return to Britain, journalist Omid Scobie claimed that King Charles III has been warming up to the couple since they relocated to England last month.
“I think we’ve seen with Charles things have moved forward and that iciness has thawed out. There’s a warmth there,” Scobie, 45, said, per the Daily Mail.
As for 42-year-old Harry’s relationship with Prince William, that appears to be at a stalemate.
“I don’t see it will ever change,” the Welsh journalist remarked, though there is a slight possibility that Princess Kate could serve as a mediator between the pair.
He continued, “There’s always this talk of Kate potentially being the peacekeeper, the one that could bring the two brothers together. If I’ve learned anything over the years from covering them, it’s that Kate has very little to do with that relationship between the brothers.”
People magazine’s Erin Hill, who also weighed in on the doc, said that William and Kate, both 44, have “decided to take a very old-school royal approach to this,” referencing the tried-and-true palace motto: “keep calm and carry on.”
“So right now, Harry and Meghan, they’re not a priority for them, and they’re very much looking to the future,” she added.
The latest insight comes amid tension among the royal family following the release of Princess Diana‘s brother Charles Spencer‘s new book Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, further widening the rift between Harry and William.
As Star exclusively reported, William is not happy with both his brother and his uncle amid the new claims leveled in the memoir, particularly when it comes to the allegation that the 77-year-old was giddy following the late princess’s passing.
While the palace has since denied 62-year-old Spencer’s claims, a source tells Star that the family drama has William “on the edge.”
“You can practically see the stress vibrating off of him. It’s terrible,” the source said. “He’s worried about his father, he’s worried about the future of the monarchy, he’s worried about what his brother is going to do next.”
As for Charles, the source said he likely won’t intervene, as he’s “too afraid of the Sussexes’ wrath.”
