The entire public sector is going to be taking industrial action at this rate. There’s only so much crap that people are willing to put up with before they start pushing back (although in this case the “industrial action” is rather limited due to legal restrictions).
Apparently the PSNI are also planning something similar. No idea about English and Welsh police, although they withdrew from the Police Renumeration Review Body in 2021 because the government kept disregarding the body’s recommendations for increased pay.
Not what you want ahead of a period of strikes and protests. If there’s one thing a government facing a real battle with its working class needs, it’s loyal police.
People really don’t realise the slack that the police pick up from other services who are also completely on their knees. Social services, ambulance, mental health, children’s homes, etc – all services which police help out on a daily basis. The police bosses don’t seem to say no, which is very frustrating for those on the frontline.
