Everyone bought boks. What weird school did you attend?
I hear Lego bricks are Jewish now father!
Oh yeh the smell of them Mmm..
The painful choices made when your mam only gave you enough money for one book
Hahah all the kids in school would be hyped on books
I only ever got a bookmark, money was tight back then
Awww nice memories. Thanks for this!
Got in trouble for changing the price tags to lower prices on books I wanted at one of these
Was introduced to my favourite children’s books at one of these. The Riverside books by Peter Regan, about an underage football team in Bray.
They were the first “big” books I ever read front to back and wasn’t able to put down. I couldn’t understand why kids my age were reading absolute fantasy stuff like Harry Potter and Goosebumps when there was Irish books talking about real shit like child poverty in Celtic tiger Ireland and the secret guilt and issues that many of us had as being the “perfect” student in class, as well as the problems many kids face in just trying to play football.
Soon elevated to the Ross O’Carroll-Kelly books after that.
I’d always forget to ask for money and feel bad, I liked reading too…
Are these not a thing anymore? 🙁
we had these at my parochial school even here in the US.
I used to buy horrible histories at these fairs
Kid me would have loved all the Star Wars books in that picture.
