PORTLAND (WGME) — Congresswoman Chellie Pingree says new ads put out by the Trump administration are breaking the law, because they’re touting the President while being paid for by taxpayer dollars.
The ad includes the song “Love Me” by “Jameson,” who says no one reached out to him for permission.
He’s denouncing its use.
The ad flaunts what it claims are some of the Trump administration’s biggest accomplishments.
The administration calls the video a “public service announcement” about reminding Americans to “love their country.”
“Let’s be clear: it is illegal to pay for campaign ads with taxpayer money. Period,” Pingree said. “President Trump really does see himself as above silly things like “the law” and “campaign ethics.” He’s also just flat-out desperate.”
Another congressman has said the ad could violate the Hatch Act, which limits political activities of the Executive Branch.
