Interesting times.
The gov will make a deal with some random indie TDs to make the numbers work but i guess it will be interesting to see who is willing to keep the shit show running.
It’s almost the type of thing you would expect when the government loses the majority
Ok Green Party… now’s your time to shine.
If you stay with FFG, you’re going to get hammered in the next election. So it’s time to decide if you’re serious about being a political party.
My prediction is they won’t actually do that. And instead choose the predictable return to obscurity.
Well duh this was expected once the numbers dropped below 80. Can they not wait til they are back from holliers I’m too busy reading about the boris thing.
Wouldn’t McHugh vote with the Govt on this (along with a good few indos), presumably they are still safe.
Not great timing, but they don’t really have a choice. They’re the opposition, it’s their responsibility.
The problem with doing it now, right before the summer recess, is that any deals the government makes with TDs won’t be made in the Dáil bar (where there are rules and some loose oversight), they’ll be made in back rooms in country pubs.
It’s brown envelope time.
Sf are pillocks 😂
Am I missing something? Even without the whip on specific votes dont they still have enough for a confidence vote?
I don’t get why they bother other than to stir up shit. Of course they’ve no confidence. If anything SF are potentially given an indep what they want like keeping a hospital in Navan that’s not needed.
Complete waste of effort. Yes the government *on paper* don’t have a majority, but they’ll still be able to command the votes of those that have lost the whip as well as the Rural Independents in opposition. They know this. I think it’s a ploy to take the heat of Padraic Mac Lochlainn’s racist mica rant.
