1.Violent offenders need to be locked in cages. Threatening old women over debts that aren’t even theirs is beyond disgusting. 2. Follow Portugal’s drug decriminalization policy. Seems to be working.
There’s a major problem in Ireland in that most of these people have what’s referred to as a “dual diagnosis”. Meaning they have an addiction issue and a mental health issue.
As far as I know the only hospital that treats people with dual diagnosis is Saint Patrick’s Dublin. And that’s a private hospital meaning you need insurance to get in.
We Are failing people like this. More work needs to go into dual diagnosis.
Also what we need are safe injection sites. Like now. People are getting hepatitis hiv and other things such as abcesses etc. I’ve seen a few drug users in Dublin who have lost arms and legs.
Obviously there is crime associated with these individualsI’m not denying that. But come on. We need to start treating people for mental health issues in order to break the cycle.
