Food prices could rise as much as 15% over the summer – report

  1. Food prices have gone up that much already in the last 9 months or so. There’s been a lot of shrinkflation to disguise it but real inflation has been zooming for a while.

Man, it sure is a proud moment to see the end of food security in what is supposedly one of the richest nations in the world. It really speaks of good government.

  2. There was a ‘dropped and locked’ campaign in Asda where they dropped the price of 100 or so essential items and locked the price for the rest of 2022. A few weeks later they scrapped the ‘dropped’ part, rose a bunch of the prices again, and just went with the ‘locked’ part. Actually hilarious. Something that was ‘dropped and locked’ went from 1.20 to 1.50 in the space of a week. Makes sense huh.

  3. 2 chicken breast in Aldi has gone up every week I swear for the past 3 months. It was £1.49 and now it’s £2.09 as of yesterday.

  4. Mind blowing, this just isn’t going to stop. Prices have easily increased 30% over the last 6 months already.

  5. I bought a couple of snacks from the supermarket and that cost 15quid.

At this point wheres all the food for the banks even going to come from?

  6. I feel that as food prices have soared I’ve had to start buying less and setting lower and lower limits on how much I spend in one trip and over a week.

I used to spend about £60 a week on food, maybe more. Then I set a limit of £30 in one trip and £45 for a week. Now it feels like I can only afford to spend £15 a trip and £30 a week. At this rate it won’t be long before I can’t afford enough food for a week and will have to use food banks.

I used to have a pretty varied diet with a good amount of making new recipes and some extras. Now I have the same 3 meals with very little variation (cereal, noodles, pasta). I think the only saving grace (maybe) is that my new job at a Private Members Club makes dinner for all the staff every day of the week and the chiefs sometimes make an extra meal for us before closing. Might help to cut down food costs if I only need to make 1 meal a day for 4 or 5 days a week.

  7. These percentages are… well, I need to start tracking what I’m seeing in the shops because I’m sure some items are going a bit mad. Fruit and veg in particular. Sure helps us all eat more healthily!

  8. I wonder what they’ll blame it on? Will it be Brexit, war in Ukraine, fuel prices or maybe the boogey?

  9. I think it’s time that the government start subsidising fresh fruit and veg at the point of sale. So then if packaged food items start climbing in price, at least your potatoes, apples, carrots, etc. would still be very affordable.

  10. How long will people put up with this shit? Fuel prices up. Energy prices up. Food prices up. Wages stagnant.

Got to come to a head eventually.

  11. When the cost of essentials increases, people spend less on non-essentials which are gigantic markets support hundreds of millions of jobs worldwide. You don’t go to restaurants, on holiday, buy new clothes, tech, a car etc. It seems to me that however it’s all regulated or manipulated, the economy overall will suffer because it’s based on people buying stuff. You’d think “they’d” make sure that doesn’t happen.

  12. No shit. It now costs £1.05 for a 4 pints of milk. Two weeks ago or more, it was 99p. At the rate sainsburys is going, it’s gonna to end up costing £2 for a bottle of 4pints. Or is it two pints? Either way, milk is going up, everything is going up.

I can see myself having to up my food budget to £40 to cover food with toiletries, cleaning supplies etc…

Fuck it, just crank it up to 50% so only the rich can afford to eat whilst peasents eat gruel in Mogghouses.
