Imagine getting life for crossing the Channel but you could kill someone with a car and get a slap on the wrist
edit: I should clarify I’m not oblivious to the fact what they do is terrible.
The fact their boat could arrive safely and be given life I find astounding when someone who actually takes a life doesn’t get that.
Where do they get all these boats from, there seems to be an infinite supply of small boats. That’s a supply chain feat that’s not broken.
> People caught piloting small boats that carry migrants across the Channel could face life in prison under new laws.
Is the home office unaware that the refugees are usually bundled onto a boat and have to pilot it themselves? Apparently they are ignorant of that fact.
I mean … give it about four seconds of actual thought. Why would one of the people traffickers (I mean the organised crime ones, not the UK government) get on the boat themselves? The boats are usually met on the beach, and they’re not interested in claiming asylum themselves, they just want to earn money from the next group trying to cross.
I imagine when you’ve lived the majority of your life in a war zone struggling for food and walking hundreds of miles across Turkey, life in a warm british prison with regular meals doesn’t sound that bad.
So ferrying people across the channel is going to get you a longer sentence than a peado raping a child. No wonder this country is fucked up.
