UK doctors demand pay rise of up to 30% over five years

  1. They save our lives… fair enough. If we can spend billions on shite PPE surely we can pay to keep good doctors working for the NHS

  2. Doctors, postal workers, rail… a general strike IS coming.

This country is being crushed by corporate greed and workers are being blamed for it. People need to stand up.

  3. That’s why a friend of mine from medical school is emigrating to Canada, he will need to start his residency all over very likely and won’t be able to be a specialist but his earnings will go up several fold in a span of 2 year after he is done with his GP training. He was a surgeon in the UK, GP training shouldn’t be too hard for him.

  4. Good for the doctors, I hope they get it. And all the nurses and all the other support staff. People are fucking struggling hard while corporations are racking it in.

  5. Ahh looking forward to all the bma members astroturfing here again.

Fwiw I’m supportive of a fair pay deal, so hopefully the independent pay recommendation is accepted by the government. I just get tired of the random accounts posting in support because they get linked here from the Facebook group.

  6. What about those at the bottom of the pay scale, those on crap pay who struggle to make ends meet month in month out.
I am fed up with hearing about these middle class professions not being paid enough.
The one at the bottom are the ones really suffering give them 30% over 5 years.

  7. My partner is a doctor and I’m a nurse, both thinking of moving to Australia for better conditions (and weather). UK needs to get with the times to keep us.

  8. A doctor in US is paid three times than in the UK while one in Australia is paid double than here in the UK. The public cannot expect to depend upon doctors’ good will. They have always had the option to leave and are continuing to do so. The GP crises and the waiting times are just the tip of the iceberg. Good luck. Respect for carers. 🙏

  9. These people sell their labour to the highest payer. Obviously they’re butthurt nobody’s willing to pay them more, but that’s life. Suck it up.

  10. It’s clear that the only way we’re going to cope with all these incoming pay demands, is through a massive rehaul.

Exactly like Corbyn was proposing. It’s overdue.

  11. Great, I hope they get it and I hope teachers are next. If not I hope we have general strikes and the country grinds to a halt until the government listens

  12. Check out r/juniordoctorsuk if you wanna learn more abt this stuff, there’s some really interesting posts and discussions surrounding this topic as well as other issues faced by junior doctors. I’m currently a med student so I find these topics relavent, but even if youre not in healthcare and wanna learn more about doctors overall opinion on the state of the NHS etc, pop over there and have a read!

  13. Nurses too. A friend of mine left the profession but wants to go back… But with the way it’s going she will just crash and burn within days of going back. Feel awful for her because she loves taking care and being there for people, but the environment the medical profession are working in just does not provide the support to do so.

  14. Grave diggers, refuse collectors, biscuit workers.

Why are loads of biscuits named after peasant revolutionaries?
    You’ve got your Bourbon
    You’ve got your Garvald
And there’s the Peek Freans Trotsky assortment

    “Revolutionary biscuits of It-a- ly
Rise up out if your box
You have nothing to lose but your wafers
    Yum yum yum yum yum.”

  15. Doctor Nurse and Heath care workers deserve more in the UK speaking as a retired medical professional! I wish people realized how many lives we’ve saved in our careers!
Warmest regards to all my colleagues and friends in the medical field!
    X
