  1. >Theresa May has called Boris Johnson’s patriotism into question as she declared she will not support his bid to override the Northern Ireland Protocol which he agreed with the EU as part of his Brexit withdrawal deal in 2019.
    >
    >In a scathing intervention in the House of Commons, the former prime minister said that legislation put forward unilaterally by the government would breach international law, and would lose the UK the respect of countries elsewhere in the world.
    >
    >And she did not believe Johnson’s controversial plan would solve the problems created by his decision to draw a customs border down the Irish Sea with his Brexit deal.
    >
    >Speaking to MPs, Ms May said that, “as a patriot”, she could not back a course of action which would diminish the UK’s standing in the world – and then accused the PM’s plan of doing exactly that.
    >
    >Her comments mark the highest-profile assault from within his own party on Mr Johnson’s plan, which would effectively tear up his Brexit agreement with Brussels and risk a trade war with the EU. …

  2. It’s weird how much weight being even a former somewhat weak PM can carry. It’s almost as if her words have far more effect as an ex PM than when she was leader.

  3. Not that Northern Ireland discussions ever reached a peaceful conclusion under her leadership either though. All her Brexit secretaries failed to come a solution with the EU over Northern Ireland and May seemed OK with that herself. Johnson is wrong to override the Northern Ireland protocol but May did not care about Northern Ireland either, not outside of giving the DUP £1bn to back her minority government at least.

  4. Quite frankly: Theresa may not have been the most determined politician, but compared to Boris she has a gazillion more traits that are more promising than what Boris will EVER produce.

Boris is only for Boris, so her verdict is correct.

Boris also will only ever be only for Boris.

He is a bit like a Trump that appears to be polite, but talks utter crap all the time – just remember his recent penis comment. And prior to that partygate. What’s wrong with this guy?

  5. For all I disliked Theresa may, she did at least appear to have some principles.

Boris will do whatever suits him at whatever given moment and lie shamelessly.

  6. Ah yes, patriotism, the elevation of landownership above sound rational values.

Also known as unquestioning obedience to those whom landownership will never occur.

*I find it difficult to believe that I belong to such an idiotic, rotten species – the species that actually boasts of its freedom of will, heroism on command, senseless violence, and all of the loathsome nonsense that goes by the name of patriotism.*
