Several of NZ First’s newcomer candidates have taken spots on the party’s list ahead of currently sitting MPs.

Alfred Ngaro, a former National minister, was the highest-ranked of the new group, in fifth.

Behind him in sixth was Otago Regional councillor and broadcaster Michael Laws – a former National MP and Whanganui mayor.

Former National MP Harete Hipango-Brownlie, ex-Financial Markets Authority chair Craig Stobo, and retired All Black Taine Randell took the seventh, eighth, and ninth spots respectively.

Jenny Marcroft, Andy Foster, David Wilson and Jamie Arbuckle – all current MPs in NZ First’s caucus – took the 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th spots.

Leader Winston Peters ranked first, followed by Shane Jones in second. Casey Costello and Mark Patterson rounded out the top four.

A spokesperson for the party described the list as a “formidable lineup of experienced, talented, and principled leaders ready to put New Zealanders first”.

The results of last night’s 1News Verian poll would give NZ First 12 seats in Parliament.
