Ukraine is set to outmaneuver the TISZA government once again: it appears that neither Péter Magyar nor Anita Orbán learned anything from their complete diplomatic failure mid-summer, and now they are once again triumphantly announcing that Ukraine is ready to guarantee the language rights of minorities, the FIDESZ parliamentary group stated on Saturday.
According to a statement sent to MTI by the opposition party’s parliamentary group, Serhiy Babak, chairman of a Ukrainian parliamentary committee, openly stated that the purpose of the bill is to lift the Hungarian veto so that two additional clusters of negotiating chapters can be opened.
Since Hungary has still not received any guarantees regarding the adoption and implementation of the bill, Ukraine continues to trample on the rights of the Hungarian minority despite reports of victory,”
they added.
They noted that, in the meantime, President Zelenskyy has already indicated that the 45 billion euros provided by Hungarian and European taxpayers for this year is not enough for them, and they are now demanding the additional 45 billion euros earmarked for 2027 as early as this year—which the European Union, together with the TISZA government, will surely be willing to pay out. They said that the Ukrainians have no intention whatsoever of guaranteeing the rights of the Hungarian community in Transcarpathia, and that “their sole goal is to siphon off the money of the Hungarian and European people into Ukraine as quickly as possible.”
FactIn a Facebook post on Friday, Péter Magyar welcomed the submission of the bill, writing that the legislation strengthens the legal guarantees for Hungarian-language education and the network of educational institutions. Foreign Minister Anita Orbán also wrote on Facebook that Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister, Vsevolod Chentsov, had personally informed her that a bill concerning the educational rights of national minorities would be submitted to the Ukrainian Parliament.
