And only yesterday in the Indo about would-be young home owners “_Living with your parents is a hugely positive experience_”
“Sure, that’s not my problem. *I’ll* be in the cold ground by then.”
The research, funded by the Pensions Council…
Young people robbed by rents and stagnant wages can’t afford to retire you mean..
It’s a huge problem that is hurtling down the tracks. Add to the fact that lots of these future retirees will be relying on the state pension (which won’t exist), and you could have a massive cohort of elderly people who won’t be able to meet rental payments.
I wonder if this is also taking into account the “bank of mum & dad” who are remortgaging to give their kids a deposit and not have to retire later?

We need to built more. A lot more. Don’t listen to any Rory Hearne type charlatan grifters who will say otherwise. Only way out of this is building.
My wife and I have no children. We rent and cannot afford to buy. We are approaching 40. We have seriously discussed, borrowing as much as we can as we approach 50, having a good time and leaving on our own terms. We cannot be the only ones to prioritize quality over longevity.
Does anyone know about the housing for all plan? 300,000 are being built in the next years. Anyone reading this should look at their local councils websites, there is a lot offer for people who are making below 60,000. Hap, homeless hap, long term letting, costal rental, help to buy and four billion per year is going into this. It seems that only certain demographics are availing of these services but I was shocked to find out how much was on offer.
But lads, listen, we need the Metro right?
D’uh.. this does not change until the government do several things. Make long term affordable rent for those who don’t buy and plan on retiring in rented accomodation, more (actually) affordable housing builds, compulsory pension contribution schemes by all employers. This will not go away on its own.
It’s cool – just need a time machine now to go back 10 years and start building about half a million social housing units.

No way that cannot be true
Yeah, most likely going to move. If working remote allows anything there are plenty of nice places in the EU to choose from. My colleagues mother pays around €300-500 for a nice 2 bedroom apt in Greece.
Was this report needed for people to know this? If you don’t own a house and have to rent all your life, what else could happen at retirement? Government will be forced to pay everyone’s rents
Its not a problem until it potentially affects the money of old people.
Cool and normal.
No shit.
But this is fine for voters who already own a home, so they won’t do a damn thing about it.
Bad timing, bummer…
Wouldn’t be a problem but successive governments have made owning a home a prerequisite to retiring by taxing every other investment type so heavily.
