Police said they worked at the scene alongside Hato Hone St John and the New Zealand Defence Force.
Coastguard Manawatū and Coastguard Whanganui, Surf Life Saving New Zealand, and members of the public also helped with rescue efforts.
Police are investigating the circumstances of this latest death.
Last month, two people died near the rivermouth at Tangimoana after their boat capsized.
The Manawatū area commander, Inspector Matenga Gray, said at the time: “Sadly, two people died, while another sustained injuries and has been taken to hospital”.
