Germany being Germany. Better stop all the sanctions to not hit your lovely economy our beloved Germany
Germany’s foreign policy and stupid dependency on Russia bring us here in the first place
thanks Canada 🍁✊
Disappointing but not surprising to see Canada fold so easily.

Not cool Canda. Not cool at all!
>Russia has an extra turbine it could put into operation, and German officials have said Moscow is using the sanctioned turbine as an excuse to apply economic pressure to Europe. Returning the turbine would eliminate that excuse, German Vice-Chancellor and Economy Minister Robert Habeck said earlier this week in an appeal to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
What kind of fucked up logic is that? Moscow is using Europe’s support for Ukraine in the war as an excuse to apply economic pressure to Europe. I guess we should stop supporting Ukraine to eliminate that excuse! That’s called giving into blackmail / appeasement. Im sick and tired of this.
People here on Reddit fail to realise that if Germany’s economy falls, all of Europe risks a major tumble.
Needles to say that they got in this situation by depending too much on russian gas, but how does repeating this argument help in any way?
What they have to do now is try by any means necessary to depend less on Russia by diversifying their sources and sending arms to Ukraine (and mind you, they seem to be lacking in this part, but it isn’t so. In fact, they are the fourth country that sends the most after the USA, Poland and the UK).
Good for Germany. They are doing whatever they can to wean themselves off Russian gas and oil in record speed. Them wanting to play for time is only appropriate.
It also needs to be said that it was purely Germany’s intervention which removed the Kaliningrad blockade just days prior. So the behind the doors deal with Russia is likely: keep up the gas flow for as long as WE need it or we stop preventing Lithuania from blockading the Kaliningrad transit.
Germany needs gas temporary until they have fully decoupled, however Russia needs the Kaliningrad transit permanently.
It’s not nice, not the best possible but it’s adequate given the circumstances.
A wise and logical decision. Thanks Canada!
Germany had Hungary are Russias greatest allies in the EU.
I live in Germany so the gas shortage will effect me and I still say fuck The Kremlin. I am prepared to use only 1 out of my 10 radiators (the only one being my daughter’s room) this winter and wish more people were willing to make similar sacrifices.
I understand this is the German govt way to say “look, you have your turbine, so if you stop the gas flow then it’s going to be your fault and “technical difficulties” will be lies”.
But seriously, do we need proof that the country whose officials were calling out “western hysteria” on invasion rumours in mid-february to then invade Ukraine after a week lies?
I don’t see how this helps, they will stop the gas anyways (or keep a ridiculously small flow) because it will hurt Germany and the EU massively. The only outcome seems to be to further worsen the (already terrible) German reputation in the east.
Without passing any judgement on the merits of Germany’s environmental policies the fact is that Europe is losing much more than Russia if the gas trade is halted. Currently Russia has more income than it can spend, the loss of some gas income from Europe will not hurt it much. The real damage to Russia is on the import side. The almost total European sanctions on exports to Russia are causing real pain in Russia. Stopping gas imports will be a trifle for Russia in comparison. It will be painful for Europe though.
Deutschland über alles. This is the Germany our grandparents learned to resent.
