Boris Johnson ‘considering peerage for Nadine Dorries’

  1. Just another argument for House of Lords reform or abolishment. Dorries is undeniably poorly informed as shown in the parliamentary select committee she attended among other public appearances. Even if people agree with her views her ignorance should be a disqualifying factor.

It’s bad enough people like that can be handed a “safe seat” to become an MP but it’s even worse that she can be given a life peerage for achieving basically no achievement while other more worthy people get nothing. You’d hope the House of Lords Appointments Commission wouldn’t just rubber stamp this sort of misuse with PM’s overtly rewarding their “chums” but it seems unlikely they wont do that.

  2. what happened to no major decisions while on his way out?

With the Lebedev affair being investigated this man should have no say in peerages, and shouldn’t be allowed one himself either.

  3. I’m guessing he’s hoping she’ll stop lusting after him. She doesn’t get that she’s too old for him.

  4. He needs to be banned from giving any honours now that he’s agreed to no policy changes and will be leaving

  5. She needs to be the next PM.

With our best hope of getting a half-decent (sadly, only half-decent it seems, but at least a step in the right direction) government elected next time out of the job, we need someone equally as fucking useless to keep the failures of this government in the headlines.

  6. It’ll probably get her out of his hair. He’s probably fed up with explaining what’s been going in every 3 minutes.

  7. And why shouldn’t she get a peerage? She is, after all, on a mission from God:

    > ‘I am not an MP for any reason other than because God wants me to be. There is nothing I did that got me here; it is what God did. There is nothing amazing or special about me, I am just a conduit for God to use.’

  8. Good argument for an overhaul of the UK political system. Lords should be legitimately able to prevent the Commons from passing laws that go against common law or a constitution. We also need to be able to vote on this upper house and we need an elected head of state who can kick out the leader of the commons and lords if they break rules. We also need to codify a British constitution and set new rules for parliamentary staff and MPs. Whistleblowers should be legally protected and MPs should face criminal proceedings for corruption and knowingly lying in parliament. Being able to call out lies in parliament must also be allowed.
