I don’t know how things are in other countries, but here in Italy there is a massively strong taxi’s lobby that doesn’t want competition from the likes of Uber and co. While I don’t agree that a single company was given favoritism, I much prefer that a new player has entered the market rather than it being a monopoly.
So many places I have been are full of scummy ass taxi drivers, insisting on cash payments so they can dodge taxes, or quoting one price then demanding more once they get there or other such shit.
Uber forces taxis to compete and that is a good thing and It’s not surprising at all that some politicians saw value in having competition.
lol I love people are okay with corruption just because they don’t like taxi drivers.
In the Netherlands of course the person had to be member of the VVD party. The libral economic party that has been the biggest for the last 10 years and has been at the heart of some of the biggest scandals our country ahs ever seen. So no surprise here, only sadness.
I hope the corrupt neelie Kroes ends behind bars. The European Commission specifically forbade her to work for and lobby with tech companies such as Uber. She needed to honor the ‘cooling period’ after ending her work as an EU-commissioner on ICT and Telecommunications. However she ‘informally’ started lobbying while still being active as an EU commissioner. Breaking laws of conflict of interests. Directly after ending the ‘cooling period’ in 2016 she immediately formally started as a member of the advisement council of Uber for a meagre 200k per year. Fuck her.
Put the filth behind bars for as long as legally allowed and change the laws to make these legal punishments as harsh as possible.
