My thougts are that gay marriage should remain illegal in Latvia. However I am certain that it is only question of time for our society to fall one more step lower and legalize it.
If there is a legal need to transfer ownership of something, or to grant some kind of power of decission making (ie medical emergencies), in my opinion, that is nothing to do with sexual prefferences and should be accessible to anyone.
For example if there is a neighbour without family and you have a good relationship, it should be possible to form all kinds of formalities or legal arrangements without any extra fees.
If we have this, i honestly don’t see any legal need of marriage at all.
No matter the sex/gender etc.
As i see it, marriage is more about social status – maybe seen as honorable and good thing to people as the married partners would be often expected to have children – the future members of society. Also from a governmental perspective it makes sense to support married couples as soon to be producers of next tax payers.
Peronaly i don’t see a real valid reason for the topic “gay marriage” to be as popular as it is nowadays. Mainly because the actual percentage of gay people is so insignificant.
From historical perspective, such topic would typically arrise at most developed stages of civilization, as all of the main problems have allready been solved and people naturaly strive to look/invent new “problems”.
tldr;
Latvia has enough issues as it is.
When you need worry about heat and other bills, and wether russkies will invade you tomorrow or not, there isn’t much sense or time left to think about insignificant minorities feelings regarding the rest of the societies acceptance of their sex life in bed.

Constitutional court decided that same sex families have to be recognised and legislation amended accordingly by this year, so the paliament is now stalling on passing a law allowing same sex civil partnerships, likely because this is election year and the new parliament will end up having to pass it.

Don’t really care that much. I don’t mind the same-sex marriage (well, more like – I can tolerate it). When it comes to adopting children – I hope the alphabet people never get those rights.

Good for Latvia. Concept of Gay marriage is a tool to destroy the basic building block of society, family. Deep state wants to create new, orwellian society.
