Surely, if you are on a lower income any sort of increase in costs affects you more as you have less disposable income that you can use to cover the increases?
Only one lobster dinner this week then?
So the majority of us are fucked so? Glad we are in it together
The other day a beggar asked me for cash. I told them I had nothing. As I walked on I realised I genuinely wasn’t lying. I had no change and no money in the bank. It was 3 days before payday and I literally had nothing. The worst thing is that I’m in a fortunate position compared to people my age. I didn’t even have the price of a twix and I’m doing comparatively well.
Yeah thats a load of bullshit, ah yes someone living pay check to pay check feels it the same as someone who will put 20 euro less in their savings account ever week.
Everybody feels the squeeze in reduction of what you can buy with your earnings.
But to some people it means cutting down on luxuries, not going on that holiday, etc. To others it means choosing to go hungry on some days
It seems while it may be true we truly are cherry picking facts to sell ourselves to a certain type of Fine Gael voter
Seriously, does he not have people to advise him on what not to say to alienate people?
It stands to reason that the people on the lowest incomes are much more vulnerable to the rise in the cost of living.
Some will have to stop eating out to pay the bills, others will have to stop eating. 🙁
Arrogant bastard
We’re all being pushed towards a cliff, just some of us are nearer than others.
This squeeze everyone feels will be expressed differently, one person might miss out on luxuries while another might have to choose between bills or rent, food or petrol.
Anyone notice how he’s toned down in the last month or two? His comments on Welfare being particularly cynical given his history.
The man reeks of desperation…
Can’t blame him though… looking at the polls and how his criminal investigation hasn’t magically disappeared yet.
Leo talking shite as usual.
Some people are being squeezed a bit harder than others to be fair. Again we have stats quoted and compared but no context, what’s that 6.7% compared to 3,5,10 years ago? How many participants were there on Varying incomes? How many with child care needs? If you’re gna compare give the whole picture not just the slice that’ll appeal to the base.
If you had less money to begin with of course you’re going to be hit harder in weak financial times. It’s not rocket science, christ I can’t stand this prick.
Wonder which country and on what planet these lads live on.
As out of touch as always
My partner’s work started requesting she come back to the office once a week, she said the cost of fuel and travel would make it cost up to 40 euro for a day of travel for work which 4 times a month would equate to a pay cut.
Employer claims that everyone is feeling the pinch in the fuel crisis, but as my partner states, paying 5.00 on a leap card for day of travel is not the same as 40.00 a day on fuel to go up and back to Dublin.
I’m not an expert but I don’t think pumping 7bill of helicopter money into the economy is going to help with inflation. wont this just make things worse? Isn’t the standard way to combat inflation to raise the cost of borrowing and raising tax rates?
Why is he like this?
Completly out of touch.
Been in and around power for the last decade. Has no idea about the real world anymore.
Time to go.
Rich people doesn’t give a fuck that milk cost more. They don’t even know how much milk cost.
The difference between middle income and lower income is that I have to choose non brand products whilst lower income go without either.
Leo and his stupid fucking eyebrows, pulled half way up his forehead can go fuck themselves.
Spoken like a man whose never felt the stress and pain of having to pay out an extra €50 can put on you for the rest of the week/month. He’s absolutely no idea what it feels like, how could he? Anyone raised in that environment knows that feeling. He’s not equipped to talk about the cost of living for people on the lowest incomes anymore than I’m equipped to give medical diagnoses.
What I don’t understand is that his party and FF display such contempt for us lower/lower middle class rung of people and yet you’ll still see some of them go out and give their vote to them in the next election. There’s more of us than them. Does this guy, or any of the FG/FF ilk actually represent our best interests? I don’t think they do.
This lad must hate votes…..and poor people…..but mainly votes.
Sure yesterday he was sympathising with Trump ffs.
Absolute prick.
edit: I double checked my facts and he didn’t actually say that yesterday. It was a few years ago. My mistake, should have read the date. He still said it though I suppose.
They really don’t understand the basic day to day pressure we are under.
A lot of people seem to be going on holidays.
In his “ideology” the poor are always to blame for being poor. I could stomach it a bit more if himself and the rest of our politicians weren’t just servants to the rich
7% of a low wage worker’s income, which isn’t a lot, and 7% of an average wage worker’s income, are indeed two vastly different numbers, the high wage earner loses more as a percentage, but the point is that the 93% that the low wage worker has left after the hit from inflation and the 97% the average worker has left after the hit from inflation, are *also* vastly different figures.
Even if he is technically correct, which is a stretch, he is making an ideological argument, not a fiscal one. The vast majority of workers in this country are on low wage, and the top wage earners are *not* being hit as hard by the cost of living crisis as folks at the bottom
Leo has made countless promises throughout his political career about cutting child-care costs(which Claire called him out on in the same interview today), cutting taxes for middle income earners, cutting USC etc, and very few, if any, of those promises have been kept.
A decade of Fine Gael in government and half the country is dependent on some kind of government subsidy, and now he’s literally arguing the case for subsidising the very people he promised to make better off for the last ten years.
How is this fucker still in power? He literally committed a crime and nobody is doing anything about it?
My blood boils at this shit. Like what is going on
Aye Leo the horrible cunt
How the hell would he know. He’s never been on that low income poverty line. Any notion of what it is like to be poor in Ireland is a hypothetical in his mind, the real life experience would be incomprehensible.
poor Leo is scraping by like the rest of us, he just happens to be on 195k a year + benefits
He has no clue what people on low income are facing with his fuckin massive salary and the 10 pensisons he’s on .. he such a lil bitch
What a cunt
I make a reasonable salary now, and only have for the last 2 years. For the previous ten years I was on closer to minimum wage.
While I’m feeling the squeeze, things were a LOT fucking grimmer for me back in 2015 because I made like 20k a year.
At least now when the price of petrol goes up I actually have the option to cancel Netflix as opposed to back then when rent went up and I’d to just eat less.
Leo’s a fuck dog whistling prick.
Example of someone spitting in your face but still says it’s a rain.
If you have 450e a week and paying now 100e for tank of fuel is same hit as someone who get 1000e a week??
Same with gas and electricity bills? He is full on stupid or pretend very well.
Poor fella has been forced to tighten his own belt, switching from 50 to 20 euro notes to burn in front of homeless people.
My Gods, it’s as if he doesn’t understand basic maths // If person A has €500 & person B has €1000 & person A is losing €450 & person B is losing €550, person A is screwed!
But he does understand basic, so he’s just passing the blame once again & mitigate his own responsibility in this crisis
Stupid twat, more people need to pour shit on him
Yeah but the 6% reduction for non lower classes means they might not get an extra foreign holiday this year……where as the 7% reduction for lower income means they might choose to go cold for winter or eat less to save.
Yeah % not that much a difference but meaning of that % is a utility of wealth question which was ignored
In Leo’s defence you would actually have to care to understand what is happening to people on lower wage earning.
People like him should have to experience living on the dole for a month or two. Could even make a TV show out of it. Would love to watch him squirm when he realises that what he’d probably spent on a meal in a restaurant has to last a week, along with shopping, bills, rent and transport.
This cunt is going to be Taoiseach later this year. If people allow the government to remain in power when that happens, then your lives are only going to get worse.
