Nice to see yet again you can do anything in a car and it has little consequence, well except to the other people that get butchered.
A suspended sentence is a joke.
Should be jailed and banned for driving for ever
A young woman protests and riots against a bill designed to limit our freedoms regarding protest, gets 3 years.
Literally kill someone, fuck all.
>A driving ban of two years was enforced by the court and he will have to take an extended test if he wants to regain his licence.
That is utterly absurd, the crash wasn’t caused because he couldn’t drive, he was *drunk*, how exactly are you going to test for that?
It’s not even like he’s young and stupid, the guy is *58*.
Ideally he’d never be allowed to drive again but if they’re not willing to do that he should absolutely have anything he drives require a passed breath test to start.
If you break corporate property it’s jail time. Break a person, slap on the wrist.
There should be a blacklist for drivers who cause such incidents, where they may never hold a licence again. It is the only way they will be punished enough for it to matter. No one is ignorant of the concept of drink-driving so he knew what he was doing, he cannot claim ignorance to absolve himself of any responsibility. He should therefore receive a proper punishment, not a suspended sentence.
Yet again us motorcyclists are considered fair game.
Without knowing all the details, the sentence does not seem unduly lenient. Remember that there is likely to be a complex mix of aggravating and mitigating factors that cannot be adequately explained in a short local news article.
Don’t fall for the populist trap of assuming that a more severe sentence is necessarily a more just one. We should, as a society, be tending toward the abolition of prisons, not advocating their use as a device for gratuitous punishment.
