I have no problem with USC, income tax, PRSI, VAT, motor tax etc etc
What I have a problem with is having to subsidise privately for services which should be provided for by the state.
I make good money, I have no problem being taxed. Just please, for once give me something of worth back for a change.
The more tax you pay in Ireland, the less access you have to services which simply is not ok.
You pay USC?
They are on the same team and you are not their target demographic.
Can’t put the next request for increasing the licence fee in danger.
RTEs fucked, so is playing ball to keep tubs and the crew payed and powdered
Leo constantly acts like he’s not in power. Like he had nothing to do with all of these shitty policies.
The vast majority of our media are cut from the same cloth as our politicians, they all run in the same circles, just look at all the former “journalists” that get jobs as advisors in government. Establishment mouthpieces are all they are.
Yer man Burke is a clown
“punitive income tax system”
Ok can safely ignore this
USC brings in far to much revenue they can’t get rid of it. It’s also probably the fairest tax we have
I’m pretty sure Leo has cleared that up in fairness. He stated recently that he never said FG would abolish the USC.
He only tweeted it and held up massive signs about it.
That’s where they get the funding
Friends. Same class
I always love that the ostensibly left-wing Irish twitter has such a bee in its bonnet on our broadest income tax.
Makes me deeply suspicious of their left-wing credentials.
Whoever that guy is on Twitter he’s a contrarian gobshite most of the time when it comes to absolutely everything
In fairness I don’t think it’s just our media. So frustrating watching any politician being asked a question, ignoring it completely and talking about what they want while the reporter moves on. Possibly more frustrating is when they outright lie and aren’t pulled up cause that’s indicating whatever bollox they have said is factually correct
Times like this you really do miss Vincent Browne.
State broadcaster gonna state broadcast
Why is our media so soft on our politicians? –
Because FFFGLAB OWN RTE – they pay RTE Bills
When you have a Government paying for it’s own media then what line do you think media will take when speaking ?
I dont get the hate for USC honestly. I’m an intern on basically minimum wage and after I calculated it I pay only about 100 euro USC per year. Sure I’d rather the 100 euro but its not even in the top 50 of things I’d like to see the Irish govemrent change/amend
Spending time in Ireland every year growing up, I was always impressed by how constructive political discussion was (I listen on the radio primarily). It’s hard to get anywhere if you are combative all the time. Interviewers should challenge false statements of course, but I think it’s better to kind of take on the interviewee’s worldview for the duration of the interview, to some extent. Back in the US I’ve watched our news media turn into basically polemics all the time (the right and the left both are guilty of this). So there are some benefits to soft: you get morel information out of the interview.
Because they’re all obsessed with UK and US politics (moreso UK)
It’s almost like a state sponsored media outlet has their balls clipped by the people that hold the purse strings. Anyone remember Bull Island not getting renewed? A show ripping the piss out of the government. Odd how that got canned despite it being so popular.
Government own the media that’s why
The journos and the politicians all went to the same colleges.
Tbf Matt Cooper is fairly good. He certainly wasn’t soft today with the transport minister about fuel prices
It isn’t soft on all of our politicians. Just the ones that are in the boys club. Anyone else (prime example being SF) are lucky to get a syllable in much less a sentence..
Because they are all part of the same social circle.
because they work for them.
Probably because they’re civil servants too, technically.
Claire Byrne is a biased fuck. I used to like her till I noticed she goes easier on particular politicians.
because we don’t have Vincent Browne anymore
RTE has always been a government propaganda channel and leo is their poster boy sure how much of our tax money did he give them
Because a media funded the government shouldn’t offer opinion beside reporting. Do you want contentious media??
It is what happens when you have journalists who are unable to remove themselves from their own bias.
Also it’s another issue is how some of these media companies maybe funded, if the state has bailed them out in the past or invested in the media company (RTE) then you can never rely on the information not having a slight slant against the party who is not in charge.
There is no such thing as been impartial or centrist in a lot of Irish Journalist, I recommend that everyone should watch contradicting news media as the truth is usually in the similarities or somewhere in between 😂
