  1. Last month, Germany introduced a €9 monthly pass for unlimited travel on all buses, trams, subways and regional trains.

A preliminary analysis has found a clear decrease in car congestion, resulting in improved driving times in 23 of 26 cities examined.

  2. this is a nation wide experiment. by creating a serious incentive to use public transportation germany is providing raw data. considering the current situation of the ukraine war and the yemen war, this is a great opportunity to test the possibility for drastic oil consumption reduction.

european economies are an importer of fossil fuels. thus making them “vulnerable” to exporting countries. reducing that dependency is great not only for the environment but also for the political standing of the eu. i would even go as far as to say that reducing the need for cars, and all the expenses they come with, is an economic net positive for the european union.

well, of course, for germany, an exporter of cars,it’s not that great. but if the transitions is phased out, car companies will have time to decrease their output(yeah i know, this usually doesn’t happen) without creating large negative ripple effects on the overall economy.

  3. Meanwhile Finland’s Government be like: “just get used to inflation and high gas prices… what works in Germany doesn’t work in Finland.”
