Here we go again, like NASA announcing humans on Mars every decade

  1. I don’t get the buzz and hype about it at all. We’ve been burned by metro announcements for decades, yet the radio stations ran it as the main headline this morning.

  2. This time next year we will hear that it’s actually being pushed out to 2040 and the estimated cost will balloon to over 40 billion.

  3. So many of the inevitable comments from the rest of Ireland saying they don’t want to pay for it too, when in fact Dublin props up the rest of the country with its revenue intake.

  4. This is Metrolink. This is the next step.

    Edit:
It’s also very possible that DART+ Underground will be started in the 2030s, it just won’t be by this government who have (correctly in my view) decided to focus on DART+ Coastal North, DART+ Coastal South, DART+ West, DART+ South West, Metrolink and BusConnects for the time being.

We all got to consult on the Greater Dublin Area Transport Development plan, and this is something that both people and planners really want and something we’ll need because we don’t have a circular line linking Heuston and Connolly/Docklands to the south like we do to the north.

People on this sub really don’t get public transport. I feel like about half the people here might get on the bus a few times a week and feel like they’re experts. You’re not. Leave this discussion to people who are tuned in.

  5. At least NASA have valid excuses. I was reading about it the other night and it’s expected to cost like €750+ billion or something to get humans on mars and some of the technology they physically don’t have available yet. And obviously sending someone to Mars isn’t an urgent priority.

  6. They announced Metro West when I was a kid. We got a map in the door and everything. I’m 31 now, still waiting…

  7. Problem with the announcement is simple, if they make the next three years and thats a big if more short term items are going to come first. A big expensive metro is nice but not when you have nowhere to live.
