As departing chancellor Angela Merkel will receive a military farewell ceremony (tattoo). By tradition, the outgoing leader can also request some pieces of music to be played by the milititary band. She chose a song by Punk icon Nina Hagen: “Du hast den Farbfilm vergessen”

  1. I really applaud her choice. It conveys a lot of political subtext.

Remark: I am bit unhappy with the source I linked in the post. There are only two of them in English (yet) and the (in this case) better one is unluckily not from a reputeable source.

If you want to listen to that song: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKe9ybFDQ1A](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKe9ybFDQ1A)

I am a bit unsure about the word tattoo. Though it is technically the correct one, most will completely misread the message :-(. But other terms like “last post” or “taps” have similar problems.

  2. She is an interesting person, with a real personality.

subtext, from a foreigner guessing, maybe punk groups as resistance in church basements on former eastern germany? That was such an interesting alliance.

  3. Here is an old clip from a talk show where nina met Merkel (who was arguing for decriminalization of soft drugs) and shouted / exploded against everybody because they didn’t want to pay for therapy of Heroin addicts

The mentioned “new and expensive therapy” was neural electrical stimulation, something that still isn’t scientifically prove as of today.

  4. >”Du hast den Farbfilm vergessen”

I am firmly convinced this is a hint she was a Russian spy all along. Just a smarter and less obvious one than Gerhard Schröder.
