I’m glad the UK still manages to stick to nice, normal names. Meanwhile in America, people are naming their kids stupid shit like Emersyn, Bracxxlee, Ryver, Brynleigh, etc.
Every deliveroo and Uber driver is called Muhammad where I am. Although I did have one called Jesus the other day which took me by surprise!
Does this take into account the spelling variation of Muhammed? There’s endless different ways to spell it, and previously they were counted separately (as we’re things like Mark / Marc, Jodie / Jody, etc).
My elder daughter (b 1998) is a Lillian who’s always been called Lily. She can revert to Lillian if she becomes a High Court judge; she can shorten to Lil if she becomes a barmaid. Seven of the top 20 boy’s names are ‘shortened’ and I don’t understand why you’d legally register under that name.
Nearly every Muslim boy has the first name of Muhammed (Inc variations).
Whilst the Christian boys names are split over many different names.
Hence the name Muhammad comes out on top.
I really do love the name Lilly, it is so cute. I also love the name Lilibet, it is equally adorable! Muhammad seems kind of boring no offense. Like being named John or Sarah. Just overused.

Don’t take it too literally, they revere a genocidal rapist is that better?

A) Call it what you like, they think he’s the perfect human
It’s funny they chose a nice western sounding name like “Lily” to be #1 for the girl, but for the #1 boy they chose “Muhammad”.
I wonder what the right-on BBC is trying to imply with this little stat of theirs, or more specifically, what kind of reaction they’re hoping to get from it…? >_>
Typical BBC baiting, as always *eyeroll*

They just think he’s the perfect human. That changes everything!

The [Daily Mail comments](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-10983739/Top-100-baby-names-UK-year-revealed.html#comments) on this are … exactly what you’d expect from the right.
> Very worrying.
> How depressing.
> We are finished.
> This green and pleasant land died years ago
Bunch of fucking idiots.

The future is Muslim 🤩
These are not official statistics so I would take them with a big pinch of salt and water. Latest ONS statistics are from 2020 and paint somewhat different picture: https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/birthsdeathsandmarriages/livebirths/bulletins/babynamesenglandandwales/2020
This is slightly misleading.
