Along the way, they experienced incredible sights, sounds, and feelings that only Iceland and its slice of the world can offer.

First on the docket was seeing Gullfoss, known as the “Niagara Falls” of Iceland. A local conservationist’s efforts in the 1900s saved the area from being developed. Gullfoss is now a protected nature reserve.

Next on the schedule was exploring the “land of fire and ice,” which features more than 100 glaciers alongside roughly 120 volcanoes. A third of the volcanoes remain active to this day. The standout landmark on day two was the Skógafoss waterfall, which served as a filming location for HBO’s “Game of Thrones.”

Third on the schedule was flocking to Iceland’s Glacier Lagoon and nearby Diamond Beach. Here, massive icebergs break way from Europe’s largest glacier before drifting out into the Atlantic Ocean.

“It’s magnificently blue – awesome blue out there,” said one visitor from the ArkLaTex.

One visitor, moved to tears by the landscape, admitted that while they came expecting historic chapels and northern lights, standing beside the ancient ice was an unexpected highlight of their journey.

Finally, KTBS Travel Club members experienced incredible warmth, thanks to Iceland’s Blue Lagoon geothermal spa.

The mineral-rich waters allowed travelers to have a moment of relaxation, warmth, and a unique social experience before heading home.

“We’re like boiled crawfish down there… we just need some seasoning, and we’ll be set,” said one traveler.

The adventure continues for the KTBS Travel Club and Collette.
