To emphasize the size of this thing, it’s probably about 4-5cm in length. Massive wings.
Never opening my window again
It’s a Tarantula Wasp. It should take care of all your giant house spiders.
And by take care of, I mean they will still be there, but when you try to kill them, they will now explode into a cloud of baby wasps.
Wasp
It’s an ichneumon wasp (parasitic wasp). Completely harmless to people. But deadly if you’re a caterpillar in Ireland. They’re like something out of Alien. They lay their eggs inside caterpillars (or other bugs of their choosing) and when the larvae hatch they eat their prey from the inside. I would just put it back outside if you can – the adults just eat nectar, and we’ve no shortage of caterpillars.
Ichneumon Wasp. We found a mad looking red one with curly antenna in the house last week. Scared the life out of me at first. They’re big enough alright.
