WASHINGTON (TNND) — Democrats on Capitol Hill may not be eager to pursue another impeachment of President Donald Trump if they win control of the House or Senate, but some are signaling they would focus investigative and prosecutorial attention on people around him instead.

Sen. Elissa Slotkin, D-Mich., was asked if she wanted to pursue impeachment of Trump during a forum at UChicago Institute of Politics on October 13.
“I want to look at these signature cases and not just focus on the president, but on the people who enabled him,” Slotkin said.
Slotkin said her goal is to send a deterrent message to young people considering jobs in a future Trump administration. “I want them to be like, ‘Lord, that might be buying myself a ton of problems that I don’t want. And so, let me avoid participating in that. I want that deterrence message sent,’” Slotkin said.
Her comments drew backlash from the president Monday:
Slotkin said that there should be prosecutions in order to scare people from going into politics. That’s a Democrat and that’s what they do. That’s all that they’re good and you know what that’s why they’re getting their asses kicked,” Trump said.
Other critics accused her of advocating for politically motivated prosecutions.
This is a clear way to intimidate young people from getting involved. They’re going to use lawfare to go after you. This is Marxist behavior,” conservative talk show host Jeff Hunt said.
Conservative talk show host Vince Coglianese argued on The Bongino Report that investigations would be launched in part to create fear.
How would you do that? How would you scare the hell out of young conservatives? The answer would be to hurt people who are currently holding office, 1851, to go after Justice Dept. attorneys working to restore justice to our country. To go after people working in the Trump White House, to go after the whole conservative movement, every organization that’s dedicated to working to make America great again, hurt them, torture them, torment them, audit them, send the FBI after them, lock them up,” Coglianese said.
Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, also weighed in on X, writing: “It is absolutely disgraceful to threaten young Americans for participating in politics and serving their country.”
Slotkin dismissed the criticism, responding: “Spare me the pearl-clutching especially from Republican members of Congress who have cheered President Trump’s weaponization of the government against those he doesn’t like,” while pointing to her own experience of being investigated after making a video urging members of the military to refuse illegal commands.
Meanwhile, The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Trump administration officials are already racing to hire attorneys in anticipation of a Democratic led House or Senate that launches investigations into everything from pay-to-play pardons, the Kennedy Center renovation and accusations that Donald Trump Jr.’s wedding was paid for by a Russian oligarch with close ties to Vladimir Putin.
