UK Bill Threatens Journalists With Life in Prison

  1. Oddly enough, disclosing information which could lead to national security risk, i.e. danger to the public, will result in prison time. Who knew!

  2. This bill is just straight up authoritarianism. I’m disgusted that Labour are even considering supporting it.

No surprise these current Tories are though.

  3. My sympathy is limited. The way they refer to illegal immigrants as “undocumented migrants” and demonise any criticism of mass immigration is very wrong.

  4. I think this bill is for classified high-level information – wouldn’t it be better for such important documents to not prematurely leak?

Edit: also don’t get them bringing up people being imprisoned for entering an RAF base illegally – obviously that would occur

  5. Look at what the UK did to Julian Assange just for publishing embarrassing TRUE information about the United States.

No journalist is safe in the UK. Not one.

  6. Anyone that shares information that could directly impact those on the ground or lead to security leaks, should be held to account. There should be a set process where whistleblowers (actual policy btw) or civilians that want to do the right thing, should follow – without personal gain.

  7. The government (any government, not just tories) will always use one extreme to justify giving themselves power, and then use that power whenever possible. “We need to stop the terrorists, and will never use this except for extreme bad guys” becomes everyday. That’s why this should be opposed.

And if you’re going to “what about MI5 and classified…” there’s already laws for that you dingus.

  8. Oh no journalists might finally face consequences for their actions let me play the world’s smallest violin

  9. The government wants to control the press. A quick look through history suggests that this is a very bad idea
