“Freedom in some parts of Europe is under severe pressure from repressive legislation,” read the resolution he authored. **It has been published in Polish as well as Dutch because “we wanted our message to reach Polish women”**, said Sjoerdsma.
**In September, a 30-year-old woman, named only as Izabela, died in a Polish hospital following a decision by doctors to wait for her foetus to die before removing it. She was survived by a husband and young daughter.**
**Many – including Izabela’s family – have blamed her death on the abortion law. However, conservative commentators and politicians, including from Poland’s ruling camp, have rejected such suggestions.** They note that the law allowed doctors to terminate a pregnancy if it threatens the mother’s life or health.
The Dutch government has already given approval to the idea of financing abortions for women from Poland, reports Deutsche Welle. Details – such as how much money will be provided and whether it will fully or only partially subsidise terminations – will be finalised in the next two to three weeks.
Abortion in the Netherlands is permitted on demand up to the 22nd week of pregnancy (or up to 24 weeks for medical reasons). **While procedures are free for residents of the country, people from elsewhere must pay, with costs ranging between €480 and €930, notes Sjoerdsma.**
“Such sums are quite a lot, which is **why we want to help pay for the treatments, so that Polish women know that they are safe in the Netherlands and do not have to worry about finances**,” he added.

Shit like this is just as bad as Poland’s abortion laws. No matter what your stance is on abortions, financing abortion of foreign citizens is a gross violation of boundaries.

So here are a few more cold hard truths the ‘governing based on feels’ crowd will find hard to swallow.
I personally believe abortions should be a right, up to a certain point in development, or under unusual circumstances (rape, health concerns). Where that point is (2 month, 3 months, 8 years) is probably the most common point of contention in the debate.
Pushing a stance that deviates from this point in either direction will just backfire.
Now for the part where you can just cross me off as the deranged lunatic and call it a day. The thing is, society runs on 2 things: people and taxes. We’re trying to replace the first one with robots, but luckily for us we’re still far off from achieving that. So when governments of aging countries like those in the developed world realize they’ll run short on people if things don’t improve, they’ll resort to radical solutions to keep the show running. And there’s no solution without drawbacks. The stick solution tried by Poland encroaches on people’s liberties. The carrot approach in Hungary doesn’t get mentioned enough since it’s showing measurable results, plus it’s a real socialist solution that the champagne sippers loathe, but still it has unwanted side effects. The ordo-liberal approach of uncontrolled mass migration that caviar socialists champion is backfiring spectacularly.
So when another country openly hinders your ability to levy new taxes and citizens the way you believe is right, you just know they’re asking for trouble.
If the Netherlands wanted to really help Polish women get abortions, they’d do it silently. But this isn’t about helping, is it? It’s about virtue signaling. Kinda like when billionaires who avoid taxes (maybe with the help of Netherlands) loudly advertise their donations to charities for good PR.
EDIT2: I totally forgot to mention the green doom cult stance on the issue –
decimating the population isn’t a problem, but a solution.
