Seems quite pricey for something that doesn’t make you see better. Are they worth it or just a gimmick that’s not worth the money?

  1. You really want to have the Extra dun option this saves a lot of weight. If your frame is rimless you need a much harder lens so that means the last 2 options mostly.
The anti reflex and other coatings help the first 1-2 years afterwards they lose efficiency. The more you are in dusty/outdoor with your glasses the faster the coating will degrade.
Do not overdo the anti reflex coatings (for instance the front and back of the lense) this can give wierd glare issues.

  2. If you work with your PC a lot, a blue-light filter really is a lifesaver. And as mentioned, if you have bad eyesight, the thinner glasses are a nice to have too.

  3. Basically, antireflective coating eliminates almost all reflections from the surroundings on the lenses. For you it means more comfortable vision, and people who look at you see your eyes and not their own reflection.

Blue light filter coatings are useless and are nothing but a marketing gimmick.

Depending on the prescription , the size of the frame and the point-of-wear measurements, it might or might not be recommended to have thinned down lenses (this means they will be made from a different type of material with a higher refractive index).

Do know that most, if not all independent opticians actually only work with a quality even better than pearle’s “gold” package, usually at a much cheaper price. Going even beyond that level of quality, and you’ll get real premium lenses like Zeiss, Hoya,…

  4. The day I realized that glasses weren’t covered under Belgian health insurance, I cringed and then cried. However, if you have glasses of a serious strength (above 5-6) you really have no option and must take the thinnest option they can offer, as even then they’ll be still quite thick and heavy.

  5. If you’re on a budget, have a look at eyesandmore. For the price of 1 pearle glasses, you probably get 3 at e&m with scratch resistant, anti-glare and thin glasses.

You won’t get any fancy brands like Ray-Ban or Armani, but you’ll feel a lot less bad when you accidentally lose or break your glasses.
