After previously revealing that acts including Dotter, Nanne Grönvall and Maria Sur would compete in Melodifestivalen 2027, Bishara is the latest act reported to be competing in Sweden’s Eurovision 2027 selection.

Aftonbladet has reported that Bishara will join the previously announced acts in next year’s lineup. Eight years after his breakthrough, he is back on Sweden’s biggest stage. In 2019, Bishara sang his way straight into the hearts of the Swedish public with “On My Own”. He advanced directly to the final, where he finished as runner-up behind John Lundvik. His biggest hit to date was also co-written by Benjamin Ingrosso, who represented Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018, coming seventh.

Following this success, he disappeared from the spotlight almost entirely, before beginning to reappear on TikTok in 2023. According to the tabloid, he had no plans to apply for the competition again, but he remained open to the idea that “anything can happen”.

Now, Bishara will compete in Melodifestivalen for the second time, with the ultimate goal of going one step further than his runner-up finish in 2019- representing Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest 2027 in Burgas, Bulgaria.

Melodifestivalen 2027 kicks off on Saturday, February 6, with Björn Kjellman and Oscar Zia as hosts. Swedish broadcaster SVT is expected to officially announce the 30 competing artists around the turn of the month, between November and December.

For the 2027 edition of Melodifestivalen, Swedish broadcaster SVT received a record-breaking number of songs submitted; a total of 4,077. This is the second consecutive year that the record for submitted songs has been broken.

Melodifestivalen holds a special place in Swedish television and culture; all of the six shows get between 2 and 3 million viewers, with the final of the 2026 edition getting just under 3 million viewers. Since the introduction of the current form of the festival, Sweden has had major success, with 3 wins and multiple top 10 entries.

Felicia represented Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest 2026, finishing 20th in the Grand Final with “My System”, the worst result for Sweden in a final since 2009, when Malena Ernman performed ‘La Voix in Moscow.
