I mean, last time in Crimea, soldiers just willingly joined Crimean/Russian forces. Seems like more of a threat than reality because if those floodgates open they’re not going to stop it. Probably not a good idea to provoke Russia, either. That’s one way to ensure that the west doesn’t support. It needs to be Russia, unprovoked and maybe, just maybe the west will provide some type of support
Let’s be honest here. Ukraine and Europe are the instigators here. Ukraine is emboldened by U.S. and E.U. talk that it will be defended no matter what. It has cracked down on the Russian minority in the country and has taken an increasingly aggressive stance toward Russia.
Eastern Ukraine has a lot of pro-Russia support. Same with Crimea. Just look at the results of 2012 and 2014 parliamentary election map results. Or a demographic map.
The E.U. and Ukraine need to take the first step to reduce tensions in the region. It needs to be made clear that the Russian minority rights are respected, there will be no E.U. or military alliance expansion and a they must hold a referendum in Donbas to decide its future.
Its funny how only groups ready to be puppets of NATO have a right for self determination and independents, just like only countries ready to be NATO puppets have a right to protect their territory integrity…
