NOTE This is not some sort of racist rant it is worth watching and not in the slightest bit racist
If we stopped loopholes like being to apply for asylum several times(i’m talking 5+ or even 10+ times) in a row then we wouldn’t have queue issues like we do nowadays and we could focus on professional type of immigration issues when it comes to applying when you already have a job in Finland. That process shouldn’t be taking several months.
All Points North had an excellent feature related to this topic which I highly recommend, and can 100% concur as a highly experienced foreigner who has accessed the Finnish labor market within my specialized field.
This video reiterated a frustration I have with the typical and repeatedly seen “what jobs can I get here” discussion for foreigners which ALWAYS boils down to suggestions for remedial, low-skilled labor jobs regardless of past experience. I.E. If your Finnish language skills are poor, you will not “ascend”. Yes, I understand that native language is paramount for inclusion, paramount for cultural cohesion, paramount for exclusively country-wide inward-facing companies; but with a high GDP percentage of outward facing digital service sector jobs I assumed Finland would be more accepting of foreign-born highly skilled labor. I have not found that to be the case, particularly outside the workplace, given such a ubiquitous knowledge of the English language throughout the population.
Great idea, let’s not fix societal problems leading to the slow death of a nation. Instead let’s just fix it with endless foreign labour – then the GDP can go up, meaning everything is fixed. All hail the holy GDP.
Many problems are cultural and hard to change, but looks like Migri just needs to be abolished for good and a new, more humane and functional immigration office founded on its place.
I am so confused, when I applied for a work permit, I received a positive answer in literally 3 days, and got delivered (I paid for the express delivery) to my home after 2 days, so the process took a week. Perhaps in my case it was faster because I have applied in a Finnish embassy (in an other European country)? I did not have to come to Finland to apply.
While renewing the permit, everything was online (if you pay online and have a passport picture id), process took about 2 weeks (18 days maybe?) and they even deliver it your closest R-kioski.
