If you think it’s a scam, don’t pay it. Seems to be easy enough to do.
A public broadcasting service is a valuable thing to have and far from a scam.
Pardon my French, but RTÉ is fucking useless. I watch the news. I have absolutely zero interest in it, but I acknowledge the value of The Sunday Game. And I will admit that their coverage of the World Cup and European Championships when they’re on (once every two years) is top class – better even than English TV.
That’s literally it. Don’t listen to the radio either. So not a whole lot of bang for my buck personally. Don’t know how others feel about the licence.
Just don’t pay it, like the rest of us.
Just make the RTÉ Player a subscription service.
If you want to watch a show on it, it’s a euro. Once you’ve watched 160 shows, the rest are free.
For the majority who’ve moved on from a small group of middle class people trying to impose their worldview on the country, we can choose to spend our money on Netflix or Amazon Prime instead
It only costs 2.50
To the ones saying “just don’t pay it”. That’s exactly what I mean, but in a legal way. You can get into trouble for not paying it. Even if the chances are low, I don’t want to deal with the inspectors.
If they need money they can pick it from the thousands of euro they are already taking from me every year.
Is this click bait???
Why not explain what you mean instead of just using a link
I thought the fee was for producing rte programmes, not an indirect tax.

Just don’t pay it, simple.
I think the article answers that question.
