Yeah, I knew VRT NWS was going to get a downgrade in quality eventually whenever you hear/read about the plans or the budget they get.
You can still compare the old layout by going to the french or english version and the difference is night and day. I don’t want to be scrolling so heavily just to consume news
This is one for r/facepalm. You don’t even want to know what this looks like on a 4K monitor. It uses just a little over a third of the screen real estate. Then again, Reddit uses about one fifth at no zoom.
Monkey brain click images, many colours. Words difficult.
Oof, die groenachtige-blok wat meer naar onder ook. Hoe slecht kan je gebruik maken van headings, en ruimte.
The Flemish government is forcing the VRT to move away from written media and towards visual (pictures and video) and audio media instead.
Don’t blame VRT for this. They didn’t choose this. When they could still choose the form of news they put out they chose to focus heavily on written media. Now they’re simply being forced to change course.
Oof, this looks like they eliminated a proper desktop view and just went with a mobile only design that is too stretched to be usable. I wonder if this is born out of analytics or if it was just a bad manager decision.
It also does the thing I absolutely HATE in modern web design where the interface and content keeps jumping around while some bloated framework is slowly loading the content. I didn’t bother to look at the code, but it’s probably react.
They also need to fix the sound volume on their ads on the the VRT NU app. They blast that shit through your speakers and by the time you find the remote it’s almost futile to change to volume as 5 sec later it’s quiet again.
I mean … who even uses anything from vrtnws except the mobile app now???
I hate it, I don’t need a desktop browser version of the news to look like a social media website designed for mobile use only.
I want to see more than 2 articles on 1 screen please.

I’m so glad to see that I’m not the only one salty over this. Vrtnws is my free and qualitative news source. No idea where to turn next
Contact them to say the new layout is counterproductive.
tax money goes brrrr
This actually depends on the size / resolution of your screen. On my 13″ laptop I see less than you do but on the external screen I see more.
This is “responsive design” to take in to account tablet & mobile browsing. Each device has a different layout.
I like it, looks fresh.
In six months nobody cares anymore, try to adopt change for once.
Correct me if i am wrong but isnt this better? No clickbaity titles etc of which the media is often accused?
Not my style to say the least but really not userfriendly
They’re probably fan of digg.com
Any alternative news sources for someone learning dutch/flemish ?
Kill your television ✌️
“Hi guys, we have BIG NEWS for you!”
It is definitely a step down. There is a complete loss of overview and it seems to be mainly focussed on mobile phone users.
Use inoreader.com to aggregate your news feeds without crappy site designs. Still works fine for VRT nws.
As suckmybike blocked me, I can’t comment anymore to his thread so let’s get this straight:
A 2022 web design has to do with policy that will be active in 2025. A policy that still allows 35% of the content to be pure textual.
Press x to doubt. It’s just shitty design. Just like this Twitter mentality to block people that don’t agree is shitty.
I currently hate it, but that’s probably because I don’t like change for the sake of change. I might eventually get used to it
VRTNWS is only going downhill, the factcheckers bullshit, only able to watch something, their bullshit to go along with the youth (over the top “probably” Instagram-like articles, being not coherent (Sporza redirects you entirely) no clear way of watching traffic or weather articles feels like they just really don’t care about the visitors and copy from other large sites it’s a pity because it was the best news site to visit until about 2020
De Kracht Van Verkleutering volop aan het werk!
I know they have an elderly audiance (me included) but this is a bit to much.
Idiocracy. Let’s just move entirely to pictures instead of words.
Every iteration is gets worse and worse. And no it’s not “I’m just not used to it”. I never got used to the previous one, it’s just dogshit, and now it’s even worse.
Jokes on you, I only read Sudinfo. 😥
Trekt op niks
I was already annoyed about how Sporza.be was changed, but this is worse.
