Hi all, I’ve done my research on past posts in this subreddit, “expatriates stackexchange”, and elsewhere online and couldn’t find a specific answer. I have a few questions :
1. I got my bachelor’s degree from a third world dump. The institution is H+ on Anabin and program of study is “alle Studienrichtungen”. I assume this means every program offered by the institute is acceptable, ie it’s okay if my program name is not explicitly listed. Is this assumption correct?
2. The Abschlussklasse is A4. But then beside the “Entspricht” it says the “Entsprechender deutscher Abschlusstyp” is Bachelor 3j (which might mean A3?). Is that an issue at all?

3. I got my Master’s (MS) in a much better college (top 10) in the US. H+ obviously. However, the program itself is not recognized because by some miracle NOT A SINGLE PERSON has applied to have a Master’s of Science in Electrical (and Computer) Engineering from the US recognized in Germany before, although they have for fields like Entomology. My question is : Even though it’s clear from the university name and program that it’s more than equivalent to a German degree, do I still need to go through the ZAV process of equivalence certification? Or can I just use my bachelor’s degree as proof of a recognized Hochschulabschluss?

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!
PS – No disrespect meant to entomologists.

1. Not sure, normally they check every degree seperately.
2. Basically, they say that 4 years at uni in India is 3 years at uni in Germany. A bit dumb, but I suspect that it has to do with Abitur-equivalency.
3. Double-check that your assumption that your bachelor degree is recognised. If yes, you can use it for the visa. Personally though I would still go through the recognition process for the masters. German employers (especially big traditional companies) love degrees and paperwork and being able to produce official recognition paperwork on top of your masters degree might make the difference between getting that job or not.
It depends in which field of study you got your Bachelors degree. The blue card requires your field of study to be closely linked with your future job.
If your masters program isn’t consecutive, your bachelor was in a whole different field of study and your future position is “only” close to your unrecognized masters program there can be problems with your blue card.
Hi, I think we are on the same boat. But I got the ZAV, my university is H+, but my degree is not listed. Does that means I should apply for degree recognition?
