Kulej won gold at the Tokyo and Mexico Olympics, his overall records was 317-6-25 and he was never counted standing let alone knocked down
Kulej was very popular in Poland he partied with many celebrities, and even starred in a cult movie “Przepraszam czy tu bija”
he once saved a girl near his house in the lake district in northern Poland when he noticed a boat capsized in strong winds and a young scared man emerged from water yelling that his girlfriend stayed in the boat when it capsized
Kulej was an excellent swimmer he swam to the boat which was floating upside down, dived and found the girl alive in a pocket of air inside the capsized boat he told her to dive with him but she was so scared she refused
he then asked her if she knew who he was she said yes of course and then threatened to punch her so hard he’d break her jaw and knock her unconscious unless she dived with him she took it seriously and jumped with him
they remained friends for years
