Should she get a suspended sentence?
Lisa Smith’s barrister has asked the Special Criminal Court to consider a fully suspended sentence for the former Irish soldier convicted of ISIS membership. The 40yo mother-of-one wiped away tears throughout today’s sentence hearing. Sentencing was adjourned until July 22.

I don’t have a strong opinion on this. To do what she did requires at least one serious mental defect, in my opinion. I don’t know how fair it would be to punish someone for being that dumb.

Considering she went off to join a group where a suspended sentence meant at the end of a rope, no. Should have left her there
I don’t know the law, but I would have thought suspended sentences are not suitable for crimes of this type.
Also, my pet peeve is the whole “mother of one” bullshit. Has no relevance to what happened.
Ireland will be a safe haven for international jihadists if they go easy on her☹️☹️☹️
