1. Weaponise religion as an instrument of rightwing authoritarian nationalism.
2. Make every young person who rejects rightwing authoritarian nationalism distrust and boycott the church.
3. Destroy the traditional (shared, low-key, present-but-in-the-background) religious fabric that had held society together, replacing it was polarised culture-war between a religiously-identified (but in fact, politically motivated) hard-right and an anti-religious hard-left.
It’s an old playbook.
