The US-Iran conflict remains at a critical juncture, with fresh warnings from Tehran, continuing diplomatic efforts and uncertainty over the possibility of renewed military action. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei has warned that any threat from the United States or Israel would invite an immediate response, one that would have no “geographic limits”. The remarks, reported by Iranian state media, came during a meeting with military commanders as Tehran reviewed potential targets and its security preparedness.

At the diplomatic front, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said a proposal has been reached with mediators that could allow the Strait of Hormuz to reopen fully within two days. The development comes amid continuing discussions involving regional mediators, including Qatar. The strategically important waterway is a key route for global oil shipments, making its reopening central to efforts to ease regional tensions and stabilise energy supplies.

Araghchi said Iran was not currently planning a meeting with US officials, but described recent American efforts towards broader dialogue as a positive development. Tehran has maintained that negotiations would depend on Washington agreeing to its conditions.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council chief Mohsen Rezaei said the tone of US communication had changed, calling it a positive sign. However, he indicated that Tehran had taken no decision to alter its nuclear doctrine. Washington continues to seek assurances that Iran will not develop nuclear weapons, while Tehran maintains that its nuclear programme is peaceful.

Regional leaders have also stepped up calls for restraint. Saudi Arabia and Egypt have warned against another round of fighting, saying military escalation could have serious consequences for the region.

Beyond the US-Iran standoff, developments across the Middle East include fresh discussions on Syria-Jordan border security and concerns over the death of a UN human rights staff member in Houthi custody in Yemen.
