I hope to wake up next to Peter O’Mahony tomorrow morning.
Yeah……. Gino can hope to do whatever he wants, doesn’t mean that it has any chance of passing.
He is not in government so therefore it doesn’t matter what he says or does.
Hope it doesn’t pass
I feel that TDs really don’t put enough effort in getting support from other members of the house before bring bills forward.
Does this guy do anything else?
The Irish Examiner had a story recently on Germany’s legalisation for personal use saying that all eyes were on Germany to see how it goes, adding that it will raise almost five billion in tax.
Helen McEntee mentioned something about taxing drug dealers at a higher rate, which is dealers of all types of drugs including cannabis, but it’s essentially taxing drugs.
It might not be the medicinal argument that legalises it here, as it did in America, it will be tax revenue.
The government shouldn’t prohibit me from smoking cannabis because it poses a threat to those that abuse it, no more than they ought to prohibit me from drinking alcohol because it poses a threat to those that abuse it. Therefore, cannabis ought to be as regulated as, and maybe no more than, alcohol.
Jesus wish these assholes would stop grand standing and do something that might actually be possible for once like get rid of swabbing, a measure that has been proven to be completely inaccurate by other countries, England one of them, and downright cruel.
You want to make smokers happy, do something about that!
It’s his own bill, so it probably won’t get anywhere, but I do feel like Gino is getting an awful lot of stick here that’s not entirely justified. His politics in general I find very abhorrent but he’s a decent man.
People saying “does he not focus on anything else” – does Neale Richmond focus on anything other than Brexit? Does Thomas Pringle focus on anything other than mica? Does Catherine Murphy focus on anything other than Denis O’Brien?
A lot of TDs and Senators have a hobby horse. Something they’ve pledged to focus on because they know their brief well and can get airtime on it.
For the record I’m much more of a FG man than a PBP man, but give Gino a break. If this came from the government benches we’d be lauding it.
Ah they do. Plans get approved for the HR’s in Kerry, and Mattie gets his dose of washing powder in Tipp. The big stuff gets roiled over and makes the 6-1 news, but the boring hum-drum of the Dail goes on regardless.
MM and FF love their rural vote and allow a lot of stuff to pass. FG neo-lib love to help EI and local businesses as well as the FDI crowd.
A week Gov majority and split on both the FG and Green party make it timely for a SF no-confidence and all amd sundry to raise private members bills. A general election might be wafting on the breeze and nothing makes TD’s more happy to raise issues from their voter base.
Gino has been fighting for the cause for years. One of the greatest parliamentarians this country has ever produced.
So, does this mean that people smoking the wacky tobacco 3 days ago won’t be prosecuted for driving under the influence?
Word of the year that I’ve seen so far and is fairly accurate to be fair

Bridge for sale, I’ve got a lovely wee bridge for sale!
This is great.
If you want Dublin to smell thirty times as much of cheap weed & hash as it does at the minute.
I live in Thailand where cannabis has been decriminalised and now is been sold in dispensaries , and has also created a new industry overnight ..
About time. Complete waste of Garda resources.
Not to mention that Holland and Portugal have proved it works. But no, we need more “see how it goes”. How much waste of money goes into that?
Its gas how they just go on holiday and abandon the problems they’ve caused mid disaster. They’ve no sort of sense of duty or work ethic.
