We don’t talk to each other, don’t go to each other’s cities and watch completely different media.
Sure I see myself as Flemish, but I also see myself as a Belgian and a European, but most importantly as a Geraardsbergenaar. I don’t see a problem with regional pride. The Swiss usually identify first with their canton as well, many Bavarians are Bavarian first and German second, same with Corsicans, Sardinians, Sicilians, etc and there’s barely any problems there about that.
Honestly I don’t really feel attracted to feeling myself Flemish or Belgian or whatever. Why try to force this feeling of being one whole, when we’re really not?
Why do you think there are language laws? Who wanted them? Why did they want them?
Are these “problems” still relevant?
Belgium is an artificial country, it’s just a fact. The language is the main difference, but it’s an enormous difference. The politics are also completely different.
Either way, the reason there’s hard language borders and the politics are so regional is because the Walloon powers that be of the time didn’t want to hear or see Flemish (peasants) in their areas.
