Mobile internet in Belarus will be made faster by the end of the year. One of the operators has already been fined for quality

By the end of 2026, the capacity of the mobile internet network will be increased by 30%. This was stated on STB by Pavel Tkach, First Deputy Minister of Communications and Informatization. This will allow for improved internet speed.

«For this, we, following the example of the Russian Federation, freed up part of the frequency ranges from digital television and handed them over to cellular operators. In some places, equipment of special users, who work, for example, with aircraft, was also moved to other frequency ranges.

We are allocating additional frequencies. Yes, this takes a certain amount of time; yes, it is necessary to carry out frequency planning with certain services that also operate in nearby frequency ranges,» the official explained.

For the past year, there was a requirement for mobile operators — to provide coverage of M-class routes with internet of appropriate quality.

«One of our operators, unfortunately, according to the conclusion of the Belarusian State Inspection for Electrosignal, did not fulfill these requirements. The materials were handed over to the court; this is our first precedent. The fine was, perhaps, small for a major operator so far, only 100 base units (4500 rubles. — NN). The deadline for eliminating the causes is — by the end of the current year,» said Pavel Tkach.

If the operator fails to comply, there will be a repeat court hearing.
