Has anyone read this book: “The Truth Behind the Irish Famine” by Jerry Mulvihill? Picked it up this morning and finished it there. Had to stop and start many times. The eye witness accounts hit particularly hard.

I haven’t, but give us a synopsis…. it was the brits wasn’t it?
What I find astonishing is that we’re just never going to know the true number of dead. The official number is a million, but when you consider that mortality on the coffin ships was around 30% and the number who left on them, I’d say the actual death toll of the famine is in the millions.
A lady at work bought it and showed it to me the other day, I took a quick glance. I like the way it’s layed out and the illustrations are a nice feature too. Considering purchasing myself, definitely seemed interesting.
There’s a Facebook page for The Wild Atlantic Way and there’s constantly bits from this book being posted and it’s hilarious to watch people lose their shit over it.
I haven’t read it but because of this post I Googled it and there doesn’t seem to be an impartial review of it anywhere online? For something published in 2017?
To my (very cynical) eyes it looks like an attempt to cash-in. On the Famine/Holocaust.
If you enjoyed this, I HIGHLY recommend the podcast Behind The Bastards, they did a two parter on the famine.

Have you read “the graves we’re walking”? It’s an amazing read and really goes into what British policy did to worsen the famine.
It’s a tough read.
I’ve read many books on the Irish Famine. This looks like it would be a good read.
How many parallels have you noticed between the politics and economic trends in the book and those going on today?
Never heard of it, so thanks for sharing.
