‘Nood breekt wet’: Minister Demir wil meer dan twee kerncentrales langer openhouden

  1. Does this also count for the gas plants? Just a small reminder that the old plant in Vilvoorde has an eternal operating license, which can only be amended when another plant is build in its place. The proposed replacement plant in Vilvoorde, has 60% efficiency instead of 40%, will pollute less per unit of energy produced and will be possible to shut down legally.

The only remaining issue is the amount of stikstof, which is also heavily reduced. The stikstof seems only a problem for energy production and farmers, and not so much for Antwerp Harbor company expansion.

Can we talk about keeping nuclear plants open? Sure, but don’t try to spin it as the only viable option. There are a lot of things in play here. Instilling fear while covertly skipping other legit possibilities is no way to solve problems, but sadly seems the preferred way for a lot of policy makers.
‘Necessity knows no law’ is an easy way out when you only want to break someone else’s law. It’s a whole other story when you want to break your own.

Simple one line statements will not solve our complex issues.

  2. She has been rejecting wind turbine permits for years just to make their argument stronger and stronger.

No we can’t run on wind only, no gas plants are not the solution but the way they are willing to get to their goal is disgusting.

  3. What i can’t understand is this: while the debate about nuclear power and fossil fuels goes on… why don’t we just keep building a fuckton of windmills? Even the Green party aren’t about renewable energy sources. Nuclear power this, gas plants that… ok but in the meantime let’s get on with windmills.

  4. > te vermijden dat grote verbruikers moeten worden afgeschakeld.

Always nice to hear the real concern

  5. I’m as anti nuclear as is reasonably possible.

Which last year meant close those everlasting-waste-dirtbags down asap but right now means keep those fuckers pumping on full blast through next winter. I’ll chuck in the uranium myself if I have to.

It’s going to be an economical slaughterhouse if that maniac in the Kremlin decides to cut off supplies, our neighbours will need every cubic centimetre of gas that we can save.

Also, we need more wind turbines (but not in my backyard eww put it in de Walen ^(/s) )

  6. I am shocked – SHOCKED!… well, not that shocked.

The eternal short sightedness of the Belgian energy management strikes again. And the foolish “let’s close down all nuclear and replace it with gas and some green” plan has already shot itself in the foot.

Pretty sure the “let’s rely (even more) on foreign energy when ours runs out” plan will end up backfiring as well this upcoming winter with Russia closing off more and more gas supply routes. Pretty sure the neighbors we were hoping to buy energy from will have similar supply issues as us (not to mention the rest of Europe).

    *sighs*

  7. Sure, but isn’t this a federal matter? I think there’s enough on her plate already…

And yes, despite me disliking nuclear power, these circumstances are unforeseen, and we should adapt our plans. But under what conditions? We can’t budge on Engie wanting Belgium to pick up the clean up bill for the nuclear plants. It doesn’t seem fair to pay Engie even more money to keep something open that will make them a lot of profit.

But whatever the solution, the decision needs to happen yesterday. This discussion has been going on for months, without any actual progress it seems…

  9. Guys….we have 2 nuclear power plants and 7 REACTORS. REACTORS. Tihange has 3. Doel has 4.
All are generation 2 Pressure water Reactors. These provide 51% of belgiums total electricity production.

  10. With the (provoked) Ukraine War politicians can now justify about anything. Nothing is off limits anymore.

  12. Their better for the environment than fossil fuels so until we have reliable renuable energy it’s the better option. We just need to be very carefully with it.

  13. Domheid breekt wet , wat ga je doen also kutlandje teen Rusland? Idd niksniet.

Europe in a delusional state , shamefully so.

  14. Why would they undergo massive investments if they’re planned for closing in x years?
Nobody wants to invest in something that won’t ever pay off?
We need to actually put money into research and building new better plants!
