You need to push down on/turn the thing above the door handle.
Nothing special turn the knob and push down the handle at same time, there might be other modes on it but the above one is most complex.
twist the thing above the handle clockwise and push the handle downward
Sometimes it helps to also pull the door in a bit, but handle + turning should do the trick most of the time
First turn the thingy, and then turn the other thingy.
Use window. That’s what I’ve done since I moved here.
Doors may be somewhat swollen at the moment due to the humid weather (I know mine is; I thought I’d left my security lock on last night bc it was so stiff) so pulling it inwards a bit before pushing it open may help with that. But otherwise yeah, turn the knob in clockwise direction and push down the handle.
Some doors require doing them at the same time, some doors require that you turn the above thingy first and only after that the lower handle works. (And if you try it in the wrong order, the door won’t open, really annoying.)
Pull the door from handle and twist the top, it’s probably just new and tight door. If needed you might have to press handle when twisting the top.
Haha i was just in Portugal and struggled with local doors, i can feel you
