  1. What about Austrians joining the Swiss forces? That would produce a few very interesting questions 🙂

  2. EU defense and NATO are basically 99% overlapping but either way if any country actually wanted to invade Austria they would have to go through both unless said country is Switzerland

Edit : sorry typo “Austria” not “Australia” 💀💀💀

  3. I like the Austria discourse because, while true, it is funny to see Western Europeans accuse the Austrians of free riding

  4. How can a body that does not let its citizens elect its executive and law initiating body or ‘president’ have an army? What can possibly go wrong?

  5. The issue is many Europeans like Denmark, the Baltics, Poland and others lean more towards NATO rather then greater EU military integration simply because the EU has shown to be hesitant to respond and frankly the US is the one doing the heavy lifting.
The EU would need to massively step it up

  6. A European Defense System would be far better than NATO

NATO has global interests, a european defense architecture would just serve for Peace in Europe

  7. It shows when you don’t feel threatened you don’t prepare for you own defense. Let anyone take Austria we aren’t going to stop them.

  8. >Only 14% would want Austria to join NATO

Austrians don’t appreciate the threat posed by peasant farmers 5000km away when we don’t bomb their children’s schools. It’s the only thing keeping the west safe.
