The government’s main priority is to revive the economy, Prime Minister Luca Niculescu said during a meeting with representatives of foreign investors in Romania at Victoria Palace on Wednesday, thanking them for their important contribution to the country’s development.

According to a government press release, the prime minister stressed that rebuilding trust, together with state institutions and Romanian companies, is essential to finding the best solutions for the business community.

“The positive signal we have seen in recent days, with Romania raising 4.5 billion euros on international financial markets, confirms that overcoming the political deadlock in Bucharest has strengthened the country’s credibility abroad. Getting the economy moving again through new investment can create jobs and opportunities, particularly for young people,” Luca Niculescu said, as quoted in the press release.

The meeting highlighted the government’s intention to adopt a more coordinated approach to economic diplomacy, improve the effectiveness of measures to combat tax evasion and reduce bureaucracy, with a view to implementing the standards of developed economies while responding more closely to investors’ needs.

“From this perspective, OECD accession was identified as a key national objective for raising Romania’s international profile and attracting capital. In this context, the prime minister referred to the very constructive discussions he had held the previous day with OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann,” the statement said.

To facilitate dialogue with representatives of foreign investors, who put forward a series of concrete proposals to stimulate the economy, Niculescu asked the head of the Prime Minister’s Chancellery to arrange quarterly meetings involving government representatives, the statement added.

The meeting was also attended by Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare, Foreign Minister Danut Neculaescu, Energy Minister Dumitru Chisalita, Labour Minister Florin Manole, Health Minister Alexandru Rogobete, Environment Minister Natalia Intotero and Digitalisation Minister Bogdan Dumitru, as well as the head of the Prime Minister’s Chancellery, Oleg Ungureanu.
