  1. See the “anti-violence” rugby dads are in the comments now. How convenient that the 1916 rebellion is lauded and acts of resistance against the British crown are fine before the treaty. The British security forces are still active in Ireland today but it’s okay because it’s not happening in D4.

  2. The people on this thread who hate people like Joe McDonnell are the type of people whose ancestors probably served in the RIC.

  3. Absolute state of this post trying to make out this piece of scum and his cohorts were in any way heros. In reality they were responsible for the murder of scores of innocents north and south of the border.

  4. I would go on a hunger strike but I think I’m already doing it cause I can’t afford to live in this county anymore.

  5. Yeah civil rights, internment being treated as a second class citizen in your own country is a big motivator for young men to get involved,, I’m not saying everything the PIRA did was right far from it actually, but to have the audacity to sit in your sheltered state down south and judge what the people of the north went through takes some nerve

  6. Jaysus all the west Brits were busy yesterday.

Wait until they hear about what the Ra did during the Tan War.

Whether it was executing alleged collaborators, killing people as they visited graves of their loved ones, burning RIC officers to death, executing grannies, disappearing loads of people, killing civilians during arms raids, killing civilians in botched grenade attacks, killing wounded Brits etc…

  7. The people shitting on him in the comments are just jealous that they’ll never be half the man he ever was. Joe McDonnell’s name echoes in the cries of the oppressed all around the world as an example, just like the other Hunger Strikers. He was a hero, and so were all the Hunger Strikers. The British killed a man, but Joe McDonnell lives. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

  8. If Sinn Fein wants to be taken seriously they’ve got to stop glorifying this sort of thing. These IRA types weren’t exactly a bunch of saints.
